Magical Moments Calligraphy

In every event-- whether that be a wedding, dinner party, or birthday-- tradition can be found in the foundation of all of these moments. Be it a family tradition or cultural tradition, we all want to personalize these occasions and make them our own. Magical Moments Calligraphy offers beautifully designed invites, name cards, and personalized cards, to name a few. Incorporating something simple like this adds such a personal touch to your wedding or event.

Owner, Allison Hubbard, discovered calligraphy in early 2020 from social media. From there she started following other calligraphers and began to teach herself the art of calligraphy. She was able to practice during the COVID-19 shutdown and began offering her services in spring/summer of 2020.

Allison has a background in musical theatre- she studied in Chicago and was a cast member at Disney World-  and her love for Disney played a part in coming up with the name “Magical Moments.”

“...finding the magic in a small moment- like an invitation or that emotion you feel when you see a table come together- by doing calligraphy I’m helping to create that magic in those moments, so that’s how I came to the name.”

When creating a design, Allison determines the theme by getting to know the client. Every event is different, and her artwork seeks to reflect and compliment the moment. She uses the uniqueness of every event as her inspiration. For a cookie themed birthday party, Allison used a fun round font to capture the day perfectly.

The process of creating a print is very delicate- once she settles on a design she pencils it onto the paper. The tone she is going for will determine the nib used. A nib is what she puts on the pen to write. Different types of nibs vary in their purpose, size, and shape. There are times when Allison only inks one line at a time because she doesn’t want to chance smudging the ink. After the print is completely inked, she has to let it dry overnight and use a special type of eraser to remove the pencil and avoid smudging the ink.

I would have never thought about how intricate the process of calligraphy is—a simple art that has such a pleasing aesthetic. This beautiful style of writing has been around for so long and incorporating this traditional art into your wedding or event is a lovely touch.
